This illustration is a combination of traditional and digital art. The illustration started as a very rough pencil sketch where I mapped out what I wanted to include and where I wanted everything to be.

I started by sketching the outline of each dragon in pencil. Once I was happy with the sketches I went over them with ink.

After this, I sketched out an outline for a tree. Then I went over the sketch with ink. I was only able to fit about half of the tree on the page.

To get an idea of how everything would look together, I photographed my work and combined it all into one design using Photoshop. I was able to duplicate the tree and flip vertical to create the makings of a forest.

I still have the last dragon to add at the top as well as the little girl at the center. I also need to add the ground. Right now, everything, including the trees, is floating in mid-air.
It’s been an enjoyable process so far, and the little details are my favorite part. Can’t wait to continue adjusting and watching the illustration grow.
