I started by drawing up some sketches of different scenes for the story idea for a children’s book.

Pete the pig starts a circus on a farm, causing trouble for the other animals. He tries a cannon stunt with a sheep. But a chick from the farm puts a stop to Pete’s plans and suggests that he try juggling instead.

I started reworking the two of the scenes and worked on establishing the values I wanted to include.

Pete the Pig in his ringmaster costume and the cannon stunt Pete tries with a sheep.

I kept working on the values and tweaking the scene of the cannon ball stunt illustration.

Refined value study.

Next, I started working on establishing the colors.

Adding details, colors, value, lighting, and shading.

I decided to go with second color study. Adding more texture and shading. I also adjusted the colors and values a bit.
